changes made to the trailer
when we started to film our trailer we realised that were gong to have to change a lot of our original plans. this included the character we were using, the types of shots that we wanted to do and the locations. WE first decided that we had to change some of our characters as it was hard to find a time where there were all free to film due to other commitments that they had. we then decided to use characters that were a bit younger than we had originally planned as they were less likely to have work commitments and school deadlines. we kept three of the original chapters and the other three we had to change. we also had to change the shots that we wanted to use. this was because when we first filmed them we decided that they didn't look as good has we had hoped and they were not as effective. to try and make our shots more effective we added more close up shots to create a more tense atmosphere. another thing that we discovered when we started filming was that we were going to have to change our locations for the trailer. our main location for the trailer was an abandoned house in the local village. however when i went to view this house it was 30 minute walk on a muddy track which would have made it very difficult for us to carry all of our equipment there carefully and safely. when i reached the ouse and went inside, although it would have been the perfect setting for our film we realised that it wasn't safe enough for us to film there. it would have also been difficult to film there as we would have to rely on the natural lighting which would have ruined the effect of the footage. instead of filming in the abandoned house we made a decision to film in our schools drama studio. we decided to film here as it is very accessible and it is safe for all of the actors and actresses. using the drama studio as one of our main locations was very useful as it also meant that we could take full advantage of using the good lighting and position it the way that we wanted. the hide the fact that the location was the school drama studio we used black curtains around the room to block out the natural light and make it look as if it was in a dark scary house. the black curtains were also very useful as they gave us a plain background that we could film against. another thing that we had to change in the trailer was some of the props that we were using. during the trailer we removed all of the props that could be used as weapons. we did this as it wouldn't be safe for us to use these around the school and it could us and others to have an accident.

film poster evaluation
During our lesson i had a look at a film poster and a film magazine that other students had produced. i looked at these as it gave me an idea of what was expected from my poster and magazine cover. when i looked at these products i evaluated them and picked out all of the things that had ben done well and then the things that could be improved. The first one that i looked at the was film poster shown below. This was graded at a level 4. this was because it stuck to the min conventions of a film magazine, it had a wide variety of texts and fonts as well as good integration of the text and the images. There was only a few things that were wrong with the magazine, such as it is not clear if it is a teaser trailer or a full film poster.

This was because they had used the correct conventions of a magazine for the page layout, used a variety of different font and text sizes, has a good use of IT and ha good integration of illustration and text. The reason that this didn't get top band was due to only a few minor issues. for example the bar code was places in the wrong position and on the wrong side of the magazine. The title of the magazine also needs to be a bit bigger and a different font as it doesn't look as realistic as the real magazine title.

Teaser Poster
This is a teaser poster for 'The Dark Knight'. this is a teaser poster as it reveals very little about the film other than the title, release date and a tagline. The purpose of the release date is to hype people up for the film and get them excited to see it as soon at it comes out in cinemas. they also use a tagline from the film to spark interest as well as giving a connection to events that happen during the film. The image on the poster relates to two main people within the film. the black eyes and the red mouth symbols the main villain in the film which is the joker and the mouth also is in the shape of a bat which represents batman himself who is the main character in the film. The main colours that are used in the film are dark blue and black. they use thee course as it is supposed to be a dark and intense film, these colours symbolise the darkness and make the poster look dramatic. The bat is in red to make it stand out as thats the main give away from the film. This poster meets most of the conventions of a horror poster. an example of this is the colour scheme that is used. most horror films use black, white and red which is the same colours that are used in this poster.
The role of posters
The main point of a Film poster is to advertise the release of a new film. this is because they are usually released very early on and release the date of the film, which gets people excited and hyped up for the film. the posters usually have a range of different information about the film such as the name, the main actors and actresses, the information about its release and the age rating certificate. The posters usually name popular actresses or actors that are starring in the film as it attracts viewers due to the popularity of the stars. the Role of film posters is also to target specific audiences. for example for a film there may be several different posters made so they are all able to work together to target a larger audience. As well as being used to advertise the film, they can also become merchandise. This is because if people are looking forward and excited to watch the film and enjoy it after they have watched it they may decide to purchase one or more of the posters for the film.
There are any different types of film posters that are used for different things, such as teaser posters, character posters and a motion poster. A taster poster is usually used a promotional poster that is released before the official one. it usually doesn't give away much information about the film but contain a large image to spark interest. its main purpose is to generate excitement for the film. the character posters usually just feature a large image of the main character or 2 characters that star in the film. there is usually a tagline to reflect the qualities of the characters.

Health and Safety
Health and Safety risk assessment
Day 1 filming-
In our first day shooting we have to slam the locker door shut. The risks of this are hands could easily be trapped inside the locker, if we were not careful school property such as the locker could be damaged if it was shut too hard and lessons could also be interrupted if it was too loud. We figured out a way to overcome these risks such as to be very careful when shutting the locker door forcefully and make sure hands are kept out of the way. The locker doesn’t have to be shut loudly as we can edit the shot to make it sound louder if necessary. And make sure we film away from any lessons and keep as quiet as possible as well as keeping the camera out of the way to avoid any disturbance.
When filming in the sixth from room we identified that some of the risks could be disturbing students that are trying to work, our equipment could be getting in peoples way during the filming or it could be damages. To get rid or lessen the risks we decided to film during tutor time when there were no lessons taking place to make sure we weren’t disturbing anyone and we also made sure that everyone who was in the room was part of the film therefore they knew what was going on and were aware of the equipment around them.
We also need to film in the school car park. This part of the filming also involves using a car. The risks of this were that we need to have permission in order for us and the people that are involved in the film to leave the school, the car boot is slammed shut therefore hands could be trapped, the shot involves carrying heavy books so they may cause strain on the persons back. We also had to make sure that we had permission to use the car, we also have to determine of the weather is okay as if it is raining it could damage the equipment. There are also other cars in the car park so if we are not looking someone could be hurt; we are filming with a person inside the boot which is covered in fake blood. In order to make the risks lower or get rid of them completely we decided that we would get permission from a high member of staff to leave the school so we don’t get ourselves or the other students into trouble, we also said that we need to make sure that the boot of the car is shut carefully in order to save the person from accidently hurting themselves or damaging the car as well as making sure the owner of the car is present at the time of filming. If the weather is bad we will reschedule the filming to avoid damaging the equipment as well as making sure that we check the weather beforehand. We will also make sure that everyone included is aware of the dangers around them such as the other cars and make sure that there is someone looking out for moving cars. When filming with the person in the boot we will make sure the shot lasts no longer than 10 seconds so it can be reopened straight away as well as doing a patch test 24 hours before covering them in blood to ensure that it doesn’t irritate them or cause a reaction on the skin.
When filming with a spade there are many risks. These include the spade being very heavy and hard to carry, we need to be aware of other people, we also need to get permission from the school as it can be seen as dangerous or a weapon. To solve these problems we will make sure that the person carrying the spade is comfortable and it isn’t too heavy or hurting them when they carry it, we will also make sure that we get permission from the relevant staff members such as our media teacher and we will also make sure that anyone around is informed that it is for a media lesson and make sure there is not too many people around.
Day 2 filming-
On our second day of filming we are filming in a bedroom. The risks of this are there could be lots of different things on the floor which will be a trip hazard, the hair straighteners included in the shot could burn, all of the electronics that we are using may overheat and there may be allergies to the food that we are including in the filming. To overcome these risks we need to make sure that we stress caution about the objects on the floor to all of the people that are involved, we will also make sure that we keep the straighteners turned off even when we are filming and just use them as a prop and before we decide of which food they will be eating in the shot we check for any allergies for buying it.
When filming outside the bedroom the risks are the weather and the neighbours and surrounding people. To overcome these risks we will make sure that we check the weather beforehand as well as using an umbrella to protect the camera and have a dry set of clothes for the people that are included in the shot if it happens to rain. We will also inform the neighbours that we are filming for a media project in case they are disturbed.
There is also wine included in the shot so the risks could be spillages as well as underage drinking. To avoid these we will make sure that they people in the shot are very careful when they are holding the glass and don’t fill it up too much as well as making sure that the wine isn’t real and substitute it for something such as apple juice.
During these shots one of our actresses is pushed. The risk is of them falling over and hurting themselves however to overcome this risk we will make sure that the other actresses involved don’t actually push her very hard or with much force.
There is a hair pulling shot during day 2 of filming so the risk is hurting the actress involved. To overcome this risk we will make sure that her hair isn’t actually pulled hard to avoid hurting her.
When filming with weapons such as a knife there are many risks. These include making sure that everyone in the shot feels comfortable and the knife is used responsibly as well as making sure it’s not too sharp. To overcome these risks we need to make sure that everyone in the shot is aware that the knife is safe to use and it is not going to be used as a real weapon and only a prop as well as making sure that it is blunt in case of any accident such as the knife being dropped.
In our final part of filming we will be at the cinema and in the town centre. The risks of this is that there could be a lot of people around, there is food involved so there could be allergies, the weather could be bad and there are all different brands and businesses that will be included in the filming. To lessen these risks it is important that we check the weather beforehand and plan so we know if it is going to be raining or not, check if people have any allergies to the food that we will be using such as the popcorn and put up signs to let people know that we are filming and carry our student cards in case any questions are asked. We also need to get permissions from the shops of businesses in the shots to ensure that they don’t mind as well as not including brand names or logos to avoid any problems later on.
Day 3 filming-
We are filming in an abandoned house so the risks are that the house could be unstable, we need to get permission from the owners, other people may be in the house or approach it whilst we are filming, there also may be no or bad lighting which could cause trip hazards and we need to carry the props in and out. The overcome these risks we need to check the house beforehand to ensure that is safe for us to use as well as getting permission from the owner to say that we can use the house for filming. We also will need to take our own lighting with use and ensure that everyone is sensible whilst we are there as well as having a responsible adult and making sure that parents know that we are there.
During this day of filming we will be tying people to chairs. The risks of this are that the chair could tip up, the persons hands will be ties so they cannot use them and it may hurt their risks. To lessen the risks we will make sure that the chairs that we are using are stable and untie the actors every now and then as well as ensuring they realise what will be happening beforehand.
There are many risks that could occur when we film with the rope around the actor’s neck. These include them not being able to breathe properly and rope burns. When we film this we will make sure that the rope is not actually tied and we won’t be filming for very long. We will also make sure that we are gentle to avoid hurting them in any way. If the actor is still not comfortable we will change the shot and just show the stalker with the rope rather than it being used.
When tipping over a chair there are risks such as the actor may be hurt or feel uncomfortable, the floor may not be clean and the chairs could be damaged. To avoid these risks we will make sure that we get the shot as fast as possible as well as not tipping the chair whilst the actors are tied to it and tie them to it once the chair is already on the ground as well as making sure that the floor is clear enough for them to lie on.
The next shot includes forcing someone to drink. This is a risk as it could cause them to choke or they may feel uncomfortable. To overcome this we need to make sure that we are not forceful and not actually making them drink as well as ensuring the actor is comfortable at all times.
One of our scenes is filmed with scissors and pliers and a bat. The risks of this are that the person could be accidently hurt. To overcome these risks we need to make sure that the person using to tools is safe and sensible and that they are not too sharp. We will also stop shooting before the tools become dangerously close to the other person.
When using fake blood the risks are that the person could be allergic to the ingredients, it if it spilt it could be a slip hazard and the owner may object to putting blood in the house. To overcome these we will make sure that we do a patch test before hand to ensure that it doesn’t irritate the skin and make sure that that we have permission from the owner before putting blood anywhere and make sure that everyone is sensible.
The final risk is running through the house, this is a risk as the person may trip and it is in a unfamiliar environment. To overcome these risks we first need to make sure the floor is stable enough to run across and make sure anything is moved out the way to make sure that nobody is tripped.

25 word pitch
"A girl is murdered and her stalker knows it was one of her friends, he decides to torture them to find out which one"
25 word pitch review
we showed our 25 word pitch to the rest of the media students. the students said the pitch was good and the plot was clear but they also gave us some feedback to help us improve. here is the feedback that we received:
- add music to make more of an impact
- make sure that the target audience is clear rather than leaving it for the audience to guess e.g add in an age rating certificate

Camera Workshop
During our Media lesson we went out of school and went along to the local film festival. when we were there we met with camera man Robert Foster. Meeting him and taking part in the talk helped us and gave us tips and ideas of what we need to include in our trailers, for example-
- lighting is very important to create high quality film (creating a professional look)
- it is more difficult to make good quality film without some sort of budget
- to film in dark places you usually need to have high budget lighting to make it look real and professional
- The lighting inside and outside has a different colour temperature- this is very important when choosing a shot
- natural lighting is better to use as it creates less shadows
-making sure that you use appropriate camera angles depending on the type of shot that you are filming
- continuity is very important. for example you have to make sure that in different filming sessions you use the same lighting to ensure that it stays the same throughout.

legal responsibilities when filming
When producing a film there are many different rules and regulations that need to be followed.
insurance-
when filming in different locations as a film creator you need to make sure you have the correct insurance to make sure to are insured to film there. They are permitted to have Public liability insurance in order to be able to film. The insurance is important as it covers all of the legal responsibilities of the production. For example the insurance is there if there is any injuries or damage to any of the property at the location. the insurance called also be extended if there were to be any vehicles used in the filming.
the amount of insurance that you need is based on the films itself, the locations that will be used and what will be included in the film. as my film is part needed for part of my A-level course as long as I am filming in a place that is legal for me to do so the school will often have a certain type of insurance to cover this. however every school is different therefore I will need to check if I have any restrictions before I start to film.
permission-
when filming in a public place it is more than likely that you will need to get permission before you can do so. if you are planning on filming on public land then you may need to get permission from the local authorities or councils. if you wanted to film inside a public place such as a restaurant then you will have to get permission to show their location and their name or trademark. however if you were to film outside of the building such as a restaurant that you do not need to get any type of permission.
age groups-
if you are including any actresses or actors that are under the age of 16 then they will need to have a license provided by the local authorities to allow them to e a part of a film. they will also have restricted hours as they're only allowed to work a certain amount of hours depending on their age. it is the producer and/or film maker that will have to apply for this license from the parent of the child. the parents will need to make sure that they are able to provide birth documents as well as providing a letter of authorisation from the child's school if they are taking time off.

BBFC guidelines and age classification
There are many general factors that can influence the age classification of a film. These factors are the things that that decide the particular age rating of a film.
context-
the context of a film is very important when deciding on an age classification. Things such as sex, language and violence are an issue if they are presented in the film. when deciding on the age classification it is also important that they review the manor of the behaviour that is being shown. For example if this behaviour is shown in a violent or aggressive way then the rating will be higher than if the behaviour is used in a more light hearted way as this may be seen as less offensive.
discrimination-
any content that can be seen as offensive in any way relating to race, gender, religion or sexuality must be reviewed and the age classification will depend on the strength or impact of the behaviour. If however the discrimination is being used to challenge the view rather than offend then the rating is more than likely to be lower.
drugs-
films following the guidelines of the BBFC are not permitted to show the misuse of drugs and any films that do may be cut. films that do normalise drugs may be given a higher classification than those who show drug use but also the dangers that are involved.
imitable behaviour-
classification of those films that contain imitable behaviour depends on how extreme the behaviour is. For example films that show anti social behaviour/bullying and involve objects such as weapons and knives are more likely to receive a higher classification. other films that try to promote illegal behaviour are more likely to be refused a classification and cut completely.
language-
within a film there is no set list of language that falls into each classification. the classification on language is based on how rude or offensive views may find the content. for example some people may find that sexual, religious or racial language may be very offensive as they are commonly seen as rude gestures. however due to this being based on personal guideline it is very hard to come up with a set age classification so most of these are just advised age restrictions.
nudity-
if nudity is shown In a film with no sexual content is acceptable to be shown at all age classification levels however it is not often shown in films that are rated 'U'. The films that show nudity as part of a sexual content will receive a much higher classification and will not be rated anything under '18'.
sex-
sexual activity in a film and can be anything from kissing to detailed sexual actions. it is becoming concerning to the BBFC that overly sexualised activities are becoming too normal for the younger categories. the way the classification works is that the older the age restriction the more sexual activity they are allowed to show. films who have a primary purpose of showing sexual scenes will only be shown to the adult categories that are 18 and over. films that are 'R18' rates may also only be shown at licensed cinemas.

audience research
for my audience research i asked 10 different questions to find out wha the target audience likes and dislikes in a horror film to help give me an idea of what they would like to see included in my horror film.
For 2 of our questions which were 'do you think that home footage is effective in horror films' and 'do you find plot twists thrilling and exciting' we asked our audience to state why so we had a more detailed response.
here are some of the responses.

- makes the film more original
- makes it more scary
- captures it as though you are seeing it
- can create better suspense
- adds a realistic element
- leaves mystery
- makes it look unprofessional
- adds to the suspense and tension and makes the audience feel more involved
-makes it more realistic
- makes the audience more attached to the characters
- more realistic
- you can see from the characters point of view
- first persons perspective, makes you feel like you're there
- can make it more scary
Do you find plot twists thrilling and exciting?
- stops horrors from being predictable
- makes you reevaluate what you've already watched
- keeps it exciting all the way through
- makes it more dynamic
-it can change the whole course of the film
- makes the film more exciting
- keeps you interested in the plot
- its not always necessary
- increases intrigue in the film
- makes it more unexpected
- adds more of a thrill
- builds tension
- always something unexpected
- keeps the audience engaged
plot for my horror film
For my horror film i have decided to work in a pair. I have chosen to do this as we were then able to collaborate both of our ideas and create a new idea which was better than both of our individual ideas. I also wanted to work with another student as it allows us to have a wider range of skills and resources that we can use to make our film.
Our films is about the murder of a school girl which happened around a year before the film is set. the film focuses on a group of five girls who were all friends with the girl who was murdered. however it was one of the girls five friends who killed her but the audience and other friends are not aware of this. one year later the five girls are taken hostage whilst getting on with their daily lives. they were taken hostage in a fellow classmates hose who was previously obsessed with the vicim.
The beginning of the film is set in the school, where you see the five girls just carrying out her daily routines. within the school you can see that the girls re being watched and followed however they do not notice this and it isn't made obvious to the odic who it is that is following them. we have chosen not to show the walkers face as we think it will make the film more intense if you re not aware of who the threat is. the audience do however know that the character is a male who was obsessed with the murdered girl. this is clearly seen when you notice that he has a shrine of her in in his school locker.
The five friends are then taken hostage by the obsessive stalker. he lures one of the girls into his house whilst his parents are away for the week and used the girls phone to text her friends telling them to meet her there. the five girls are then tied to chairs as he confesses his secret love and obsession for their murdered friend. the stalker rolls up his sleeves to his shirt to reveal a bracelet that was once owned by the victim. throughout the film it will be made obvious hat she was wearing this bracelet on the night of her death.
the stalker reveals he is determined to find out which one of them murdered her. to try and get as much information as he can he results to violence and hurts the girls as well as forcing them to hurt each other. at the start of this they all stand up for themselves and fight back, however he becomes more and more forceful about making them tell the truth that the girls become more willing to join in and be a part of his awful game that he is playing. the film will revel that they are all guilty at different points as none of them have been completely honest abut what had happened. throughout the film there will be home video included of the girl and her five fiends having a good time and laughing which will represent their memories of her. there will also be flashbacks from the night of the murder. the stalkers game is set up in a 'truth or dare' style as he tired to work out who murdered the victim.
at the end of the film one of the friends finally admits to killing the victim, but only reveals this truth as the stalker almost kills her. after finding out the truth the stalker goes ahead and gets his revenge by killing her, however he then kills himself. the girls are left in the room tied up for the rest of the weekend until they are found by the boys parents when they return home.

The five friends are then taken hostage by the obsessive stalker. he lures one of the girls into his house whilst his parents are away for the week and used the girls phone to text her friends telling them to meet her there. the five girls are then tied to chairs as he confesses his secret love and obsession for their murdered friend. the stalker rolls up his sleeves to his shirt to reveal a bracelet that was once owned by the victim. throughout the film it will be made obvious hat she was wearing this bracelet on the night of her death.
the stalker reveals he is determined to find out which one of them murdered her. to try and get as much information as he can he results to violence and hurts the girls as well as forcing them to hurt each other. at the start of this they all stand up for themselves and fight back, however he becomes more and more forceful about making them tell the truth that the girls become more willing to join in and be a part of his awful game that he is playing. the film will revel that they are all guilty at different points as none of them have been completely honest abut what had happened. throughout the film there will be home video included of the girl and her five fiends having a good time and laughing which will represent their memories of her. there will also be flashbacks from the night of the murder. the stalkers game is set up in a 'truth or dare' style as he tired to work out who murdered the victim.
at the end of the film one of the friends finally admits to killing the victim, but only reveals this truth as the stalker almost kills her. after finding out the truth the stalker goes ahead and gets his revenge by killing her, however he then kills himself. the girls are left in the room tied up for the rest of the weekend until they are found by the boys parents when they return home.

safe haven- evaluation
As one of my practise tasks i had to chose aa trailer and edit it to make it a new genre. The film that i chose to do was called safe haven. I chose to change this into a horror movie as there were some scenes that i was able to use that had dark lighting. This was useful as that is a common feature in a lot of horror films. i rearranged the original trailer which shows more of a love story and made it look like the characters were in trouble, and in danger of something. i removed certain scenes from the railer such as the characters looking happy and smiling. i did thesis i wanted to make it as effective as possible and happy family scenes ar not usually included in horror films. i removed all of the sound from the trailer as it didn't fit with the new genre. my plan for the sound was to add in scary music all the way through the trailer. the music i was going to choose had a childs soft voice in the background singing along with the music, this would have made the trailer a lot more eerie. however i struggled with this as i was not very confident using the programme therefore i ran out of time to add in the sound. after struggling with this task i watched a range of different videos and tutorials on how to use final cut pro which was the programme i was using successfully. i did this as i wanted to make sure that when i made my final trailer i was clear on how to use it effectively and without such a struggle.

Analysis of original and recut of 'The shining' trailers
The shining- official trailer
In the original trailer for the shining the
editing makes it clear to the audience that the genre of the film is a
horror. They do this from the beginning
of the trailer by starting off with a voice over as well as showing the setting
of the film with an establishing shot. The trailer shows the film to be set in
the middle of nowhere with no people around. The voice that is talking to the
audience says that the main character seemed to be ‘completely normal’ however
this could make the audience think otherwise. There is juxtaposition between
what the voice is saying and the action on the screen. The trailer then shows
the main character walking down the corridor of an empty house holding an axe. This
shows a typical convention of a horror film.
The voice over is matched to non-linear narrative shots, which implies
what is going to happen during the film. However this wouldn’t be as affective
without the voice over as it is this that provides the hints. As you get further through the trailer the
music starts to change and becomes atmosphere becomes tense. This suggests that
the genre starts to become more obvious as the conventions of a horror film
start to become clearer. The trailer also shows the characters with axes, knifes
and blood which are the typical icons of a horror.
In the recut version of The Shining they
have firstly changed the name to just ‘shining’ this is because it makes it
sound more positive and helps it to match the new genre of the trailer which is
a family drama/ romance. The music in
the new trailer has been changed to an upbeat happy song to imply positivity
and happiness within the film. The voice
over has been total rewritten to change the narrative and other subtle changes
have also been made such as the voice talking in a completely new tone. This is
done as it is in harmony with the music so that they can work together to
create an overall positive feel of the trailer. The new trailer has purposely
been made to show many moments of a father and sons loving relationship in
order for it to fit the typical conventions of a family/romance film. In the original trailer at 0.29 seconds and in
the new trailer at 0.06 seconds the same shot of the main character in a
brightly lit office is used. However the voice over of the second clip
overrides the original genre even though the shots that are used are the same
in both of the trailers. In the original
clip it shows a shot of ‘Murder’ written on the door in what looks to be blood,
which is an iconic moment of the film. However in the recut version of the
trailer they have edited the same scene however it makes it look like there is
just a child innocently drawing.
